is "human grade" good enough?
We're often asked if our ingredients are "human grade," a question without a simple answer, from our point of view.
For starters, we wouldn't even consider lowering our quality to the federal standards for pet foods---some highly-processed, FDA-approved treats smell really bad. But neither do we use ingredients just because they're "human grade." Know what's FDA-approved for humans? Artificial dyes and preservatives, among other stuff. We don't feed those to our dogs, and we wouldn't put them in our products for your dogs, either.
The ingredients in our products are human-grade, but they're also organic or all-natural (grown without chemical fertilizers and pesticides, but organic certification not yet complete). More expensive, not always easy to find, but we won't settle for less.
Years ago our kitty Henry and sweet dog Critter developed life-diminishing health problems due to bad veterinary advice. We were at first devastated and outraged, then became determined to do whatever it took to protect the pets who live with and trust us. From that commitment, the canine cookery was born.
Years later, we're as focused on quality as we were back then. And we always will be----our sweet furry friends depend on us to provide the best for them, whether it's a cake they eat once a year or the food they eat every day that helps them have many healthy years.
all-natural
Who wouldn't rather eat something that's
fresh-baked, not sitting on a shelf waiting for someone to buy it?
Plus, we think that natural ingredients taste better than
food with chemicals.
When we created
puppy party
all-natural dog cake mix, consultants suggested that we switch from
organic and natural ingredients to conventional grains and flours that
might be genetically modified or contain pesticide
residue. To increase our profit-margin, our "bottom line,"
they said.
After all, they said, we're talking about a cake that dogs
won't eat very often.
